BE AWARE OF DANGER TO AND FROM YOUR CATS AND DOGS
Predators, such as coyotes and bobcats, are known in this area and they are a danger to small animals.
Cats in particular, since they tend to roam, are especially vulnerable. Please consider keeping them indoors. Conversely, cats are a danger to birds. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimates that cats in this country kill more than 3.5 billion birds each year, and more than 6 billion mammals as well.
By County ordinance, dogs outside their yards are to be kept under leash or voice control. If you see dogs running loose without an owner, you can call Leon County Animal Control (during work hours) at 606-5400, or, after hours, the Leon County Sheriff’s non-emergency number 606-3300. (And if the dogs are in the Linene neighborhood, you can also let Bill Needham know (admin@linenewoods.org) so he can send a general email to our neighborhood to alert everyone.)
Barking dogs have been reported by some homeowners. Some of these are certainly outside the neighborhood. Complaints about barking dogs can be directed to the Leon County Animal Control office. Also be aware that Leon County has recently passed an ordinance banning the tethering of dogs in a yard without their owners present.
