LINENE WOODS HOMEOWNERS’ ASSOCIATION

February 2020

ANNUAL MEETING WELL ATTENDED

The annual meeting of the Association was well attended, with more than 30 homeowners present. The location in the Sealey Elementary School media center turned out to be both convenient and comfortable and future annual meetings will most likely be at that location.

Bill expressed appreciation to all those who volunteer their time to help the neighborhood by serving on board or committees, coordinating holiday decorations and doing the actual maintenance.

Maintenance and Beautification Report: Jim Mann reported that broken sprinklers have been less of a problem on certain islands since the sprinkler system was relocated away from the curbs. We will continue to work on other islands in the coming year. He also mentioned that the new landscape contractor has worked out well and we plan to continue working with them.

The approved budget of $18,100 has for expenditures. which keeps expenditures at same level as 2019. The assessment for 2020 is $160 per lot and payable now to LWHA, P.O. Box 180593, Tallahassee, FL  32318.

UTILITIES MANAGER DESCRIBES OPERATIONS

Guest speaker Rob McGarrah, general manager of utilities for the City of Tallahassee, gave a very informative presentation to describe how the city electric department handles outages and prioritizes repairs.  He stated that most power outages are caused by disruptions to transmission caused by falling trees (or limbs) or animals.  When a home loses power, the utility is immediately notified by the meter through the outage management system.  In cases of power outages due to storms and hurricanes, restoration is prioritized first to facilities such as hospitals and schools, which are often serving as shelters, and then focuses on residences.  Mr. McGarrah was also able to answer many homeowner questions.  This included clarifying that even though they do receive notification that your home has lost power, it would be a good idea to use the DigiTally app to report it if you start noticing that the other homes around you have been restored and your has not.

The newly elected board of the Association includes : Martin Balinsky (Locksley Ln.), Clay Culpepper (Nottingham Dr.), Jim Mann (Nottingham Dr.),  Claire Mazur (Dartmoor Dr.), Bill Needham (Dartmoor Dr.), Patrick Flemming (Locksley Ln.), Randy Winton (Rutland Lp.),

REMINDERS

BE AWARE OF DANGER TO AND FROM YOUR CATS AND DOGS

Predators, such as coyotes and bobcats, are known in this area and they are a danger to small animals.  Cats in particular, since they tend to roam, are especially vulnerable. Please consider keeping them indoors. Conversely, cats are a danger to birds.

By Leon County ordinance, dogs outside their yards are to be kept under leash or voice control. If you see dogs running loose without an owner, you can call Leon County Animal Control (during work hours) at 606-5400, or, after hours, the Leon County Sheriff’s non-emergency number 606-3300. If the dogs are loose in the Linene neighborhood, you can also let Bill Needham or Claire Mazur know so a general email can be sent to our neighborhood to alert everyone.

OFF-STREET PARKING

All properties have driveways which are intended for off-street parking.  Please avoid front yard and on-street parking on a regular basis.

DEBRIS

If you have tree dead fall or yard debris that needs to be removed, remember the Waste Pro guidelines. Small piles will be picked up. Leaves, grass trimmings, straw or pine cones must be in some kind of container (paper bags, black yard trash bags, bins) for weekly service.

Call Waste Pro, 606-1899 (or email to www.wasteprousa.com) to schedule a pickup for large piles. Yard debris must not be mixed in with other types of materials. Have a separate pile for each type of material. Limbs/branches can be no longer than 6 feet long and 4 inches in diameter and stacked no higher than 4 feet. Place piles within two feet of curb and near where your trash is normally picked up, so that it is clear that the pile is from your property. Large trees must be cut into rounds no longer than 2-3 feet. Special charge applies. Call to get an estimate of the cost and to schedule service. Payment in advance. (Waste Pro will not pick up yard waste placed by a commercial or private tree trimming business.)
