MARK YOUR CALENDARS: ANNUAL MEETING COMING JANUARY 24

The 2019 annual meeting of the Linene Woods Homeowners Association will be held Thursday, January 24 at 7 p.m. We’ll meet as usual at the FSU Credit Union, 2806 Sharer Road (Christian Heritage Shopping Center). Meeting documents will be distributed in advance and a proxy will be provided if you are unable to attend.

REVITALIZATION DOCUMENTS APPROVED

The documents for the revitalization of the Association covenants was approved by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and all property records have been updated by the Leon County Clerk of the Court. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.

STORM DEBRIS CLEANUP & SPECIAL PICKUPS

The neighborhood experienced at least 12 houses with tree damage from Hurricane Michael and other properties had downed trees. The cleanup contractors have completed their initial work and some followup. If you are aware of large debris piles that remain and are not picked up in the near future, let Bill, Claire or Jim know.

For special pickup of bulky items (appliances, fixtures, etc.) and very large piles of yard trash, call 606-1899 or 561-0800 to request this service. Pickup should be done within seven work days. Without a special order, bulky items will not be picked upon a timely basis. Please note: excluded from pickup are construction materials including treated woods and doors. All hazardous waste items such as electronics and paints are also excluded but can be taken to the County waste disposal site at 7550 Apalachee Parkway.

BE AWARE OF DANGER TO AND FROM YOUR CATS AND DOGS

Predators, such as coyotes and bobcats, are known in this area and they are a danger to small animals.

Cats in particular, since they tend to roam, are especially vulnerable. Please consider keeping them indoors. Conversely, cats are a danger to birds.

By Leon County ordinance, dogs outside their yards are to be kept under leash or voice control. If you see dogs running loose without an owner, you can call Leon County Animal Control (during work hours) at 606-5400, or, after hours, the Leon County Sheriff’s non-emergency number 606-3300. (And if the dogs are loose in the Linene neighborhood, you can also let Bill Needham or Claire Mazur know (admin@linenewoods.org) so a general email can be sent to our neighborhood to alert everyone.)

BE CAREFUL DURING THE HOLIDAYS

Let’s enjoy the holidays but don’t forget to be vigilant about securing your home. Don’t let your house be an invitation for someone to enter (uncollected newspapers, mail, etc.) Leave some lights on while you are away. If you are going to be out of town for an extended time, let your neighbors know so they can keep an eye on things.

HOUSES FOR SALE

Currently, there are three houses for sale in the neighborhood: 378 Castleton Circle, 413 Castleton Circle, and 407 Nottingham Court, plus two vacant lots (on Nottingham Drive and on Rutland Loop).

WELCOME & FAREWELL

We welcome new neighbors: Bob & Kay Zeitlin (Rutland Loop), Philip & Deanna Sablan (Reading Lane) and William & Jennifer Gwaltney (Dartmoor Ct.). Farewells to long-time resident Linda Stalvey who has moved to Westminster Oaks, to Todd & Cindy Walton and to Marjorie Craig who passed away in late November.

BOARD MEETING ITEMS
Topics discussed at the December board meeting included:

    • Treasurer’s report: Checking account balance is  $468.46 and all but one bill are paid. A year-end report will be provided to homeowners at the annual meeting.
    • After reviewing the financial condition of the Association, the Board approved a rebate to homeowners of $15 per lot for the coming year. The annual dues for 2019 therefore will be $150.
    • The proposed 2019 budget total will be the same as this year.
    • The annual contract for maintenance of the 13 islands in the neighborhood was renewed.
    • Relating to storm repairs, it was reported that getting power reconnected after the storm was a special problem when the line from the street to the house was also down, because both city and county are involved. This process will be investigated and homeowners advised.
    • Homeowners desiring to remove trees are reminded to contact the Architectural Review Committee.
    • Dartmoor entry upgrade: Plantings at the Dartmoor entry will be upgraded to improve the attractiveness of that location.
    • Relocation of some sprinklers on the Dartmoor and Locksley islands is being evaluated and cost estimates obtained. Sprinkler heads are located close to curbs and are sometimes run over and damaged by vehicles.
    • Concerns about vehicle parking will be addressed with individual homeowners.
    • The use of golf carts was discussed and appropriate local agencies will be contacted to clarify relevant laws or ordinances.
    • Proposed board: Homeowners willing to serve on the board for the coming year will be presented at the annual meeting and include: Bill Needham, Claire Mazur, Jim Mann, Clay Culpepper, Martin Balinsky, Randy Winton, Patrick Flemming.
